Nerra for Zoom
Overview
Nerra for Zoom turns your Zoom meetings into searchable company knowledge. It reads the Zoom AI (formerly AI Companion) summary and the cloud-recording transcript of each meeting you host and extracts facts, decisions and action items into your Nerra Knowledge Library, each with a citation back to the meeting.
TL;DR
- Read-only. Nerra never joins, records or changes meetings and never writes anything to Zoom.
- Sources: Zoom AI meeting summaries and next steps, plus cloud-recording transcripts (text only).
- Output: facts, decisions and action items in the Knowledge Library, available in Nerra chat and to any AI agent connected to Nerra.
- Each Zoom user connects their own account in about a minute. No Zoom admin setup is needed unless your Zoom admin restricts apps.
- Removing the app deletes all Zoom-derived data from your workspace.
Permissions Nerra asks for
| Permission shown by Zoom | What it lets Nerra do |
|---|---|
| Search and view meetings | Find your past meetings (topic, date, host) so Nerra knows which ones to process |
| View a meeting's assets | Read the Zoom AI summary and next steps of a meeting |
| List all cloud recordings for a user | See which of your meetings have a cloud recording and a transcript |
| Read recording content | Read the text transcript of a cloud recording. Audio and video are never downloaded |
Requirements
You need a Nerra workspace and a paid Zoom account with cloud recording turned on. Nerra can only read what Zoom has already produced: if a meeting has no cloud recording or no Zoom AI summary, there is nothing to import.
In Nerra
- A Nerra account at control.nerra.ai.
In Zoom
- A Pro, Business, Enterprise or Education plan. Nerra does not work in practice with the free Basic plan: Basic records only to your computer, produces no transcript, and limits Zoom AI summaries to a few hosted meetings a month.
- Cloud recording turned on: Zoom web portal → Settings → Recording → Cloud recording.
- Audio transcript turned on: Settings → Recording → Advanced cloud recording settings → Create audio transcript. Without it Zoom produces no transcript, and Nerra has nothing to read.
- Zoom AI meeting summary turned on if you want summaries and next steps: Settings → Zoom AI → Meeting Summary.
- You must be the host of the meeting. Zoom stores recordings and summaries under the host, so Nerra sees only meetings you hosted. For a meeting you only attended, ask the host to connect Nerra.
- End-to-end-encrypted meetings are not supported: Zoom does not generate transcripts or summaries for them.
If your Zoom admin manages these settings for the whole account, ask them to enable cloud recording, audio transcripts and Zoom AI summaries for your group.
Adding the app
Connecting takes about a minute. You can start from Nerra or from the Zoom App Marketplace; both end on the same Zoom permission screen.
From Nerra
- Sign in at control.nerra.ai.
- Open Settings → Connections → Zoom and click Connect.
- If you are not signed in to Zoom, sign in with the Zoom account whose meetings you want to import.
- Zoom shows the permission screen with the four permissions listed above. Click Allow.
- Zoom sends you back to Nerra. The Zoom card shows Connected and the first sync starts.
From the Zoom App Marketplace
- Open the Nerra listing on the Zoom App Marketplace and click Visit Site to Add.
- You land on control.nerra.ai. Sign in to Nerra, open Connections → Zoom and click Connect, then continue from step 3 above.
If Zoom asks for admin approval
Some Zoom accounts only allow apps that an admin has approved. In that case Zoom shows a Request pre-approval button instead of Allow. Click it; your Zoom admin receives the request under Zoom App Marketplace → Manage → App Requests and can approve Nerra for the whole account. Once approved, repeat the steps above.

Using the integration
Once connected, Nerra imports your meetings on its own; there is nothing to run by hand. Knowledge from Zoom shows up in the same Knowledge Library as everything else, marked with Zoom as the source.
What happens after you connect
- First sync. Nerra lists your recent hosted meetings that have a cloud recording or a Zoom AI summary.
- Processing. For each meeting Nerra reads the summary, next steps and transcript and extracts facts, decisions, action items and a short meeting summary. A typical one-hour meeting is processed in a few minutes.
- Ongoing. New meetings are picked up automatically after Zoom finishes the recording and transcript.
Where Zoom knowledge appears
- Knowledge Library → filter by source → Zoom. Each meeting is a source document with its summary, next steps and transcript.
- Facts, decisions and action items extracted from a meeting link back to it, so you can always open the original context.
- Nerra chat.Ask in plain language: “What did we agree with Acme on pricing last week?” or “What are my open action items from Monday's planning call?” Answers cite the meeting.
- AI agents. Anything connected to Nerra through MCP (Claude, ChatGPT, your own agents) sees the same knowledge, subject to the same access rules. See Connecting Claude and ChatGPT to Nerra.
Working with imported meetings
- Process a specific meeting now. Open the Zoom card, find the meeting in the list and click Process.
- Correct or confirm a fact. Extracted facts can be edited, confirmed or deleted in the Knowledge Library like any other fact.
- Exclude a meeting. Delete its source document from the Knowledge Library; Nerra removes the facts extracted from it and will not import that meeting again.
- One Zoom account per Nerra user. To switch accounts, disconnect and connect again with the other account.
What is not imported
- Meetings you attended but did not host.
- Meetings recorded locally (to your computer) rather than to the Zoom cloud.
- Audio and video files. Nerra reads text only.
- Zoom Team Chat messages, whiteboards and Zoom Docs.
Data and privacy
Nerra stores the text it needs to answer questions with citations, nothing more. Everything is isolated per workspace, encrypted at rest and visible only to members of your company according to your Nerra permissions.
| Data from Zoom | Stored? | Where and how |
|---|---|---|
| Meeting reference (ID, topic, date, host) | Yes | Nerra database, encrypted at rest, per workspace |
| Zoom AI summary and next steps | Yes | Nerra database, encrypted at rest, per workspace |
| Recording transcript (text) | Yes, as the citable source | Nerra object storage and database, encrypted at rest, per workspace |
| Facts, decisions and action items extracted by Nerra | Yes | Nerra database, encrypted at rest, per workspace |
| Audio and video recordings | Never | Not downloaded |
| Zoom password | Never | Nerra uses Zoom OAuth; it never sees your password |
| Zoom access tokens | Yes | Secrets vault on Nerra's servers only; never sent to the browser |
Processing. Summary and transcript text is sent over an encrypted connection to an AI model provider for extraction only. It is not used to train models.
Hosting.Self-hosted deployments keep all data inside the customer's own infrastructure.
Retention. Zoom-derived data is kept for as long as the Zoom connection is active and deleted when you remove the app (see below) or on request to info@nerra.ai.
Full details: Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Removing the app
You can disconnect from either side; the result is the same. Removal is immediate and deletes everything Nerra imported from Zoom.
From Nerra
- Sign in at control.nerra.ai.
- Open Settings → Connections → Zoom and click Disconnect.
- Confirm. Nerra revokes its Zoom access and deletes the Zoom-derived data from your workspace.
From Zoom
- Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace.
- Click Manage in the top-right corner, then Added Apps.
- Find Nerra and click Remove.
- Choose a reason (optional) and confirm. Zoom notifies Nerra, which revokes its access and deletes the data.
What happens when you remove the app
- Syncing stops immediately. Nerra can no longer read your meetings.
- Zoom access tokens are revoked and deleted.
- All Zoom-derived content is deleted from your workspace: meeting references, summaries, next steps, transcripts and the facts, decisions and action items extracted from them.
- Knowledge from other connected tools is not affected.
- Your Zoom account, recordings and summaries in Zoom are untouched.
- Connecting again later starts a fresh import; nothing is restored from the earlier connection.
To delete Zoom data without disconnecting, or to request a written confirmation of deletion, write to info@nerra.ai.
Troubleshooting
Most problems come from Zoom settings on the host's account, not from the connection itself. Check the Zoom side first.
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Zoom shows “This app cannot be installed outside of the developer's account” | The app is in limited availability for your Zoom account | Write to info@nerra.ai; we will enable it for your account |
| Zoom shows “Request pre-approval” instead of Allow | Your Zoom admin only allows approved apps | Click Request pre-approval; your admin approves Nerra under Zoom App Marketplace → Manage → App Requests. Then connect again |
| Connected, but no meetings appear | No recent cloud recordings, recordings were saved locally, or you were not the host | Check Zoom web portal → Recordings → Cloud Recordings. Only cloud recordings of meetings you hosted are imported |
| A meeting appears, but has no transcript | Audio transcript is off, or Zoom is still processing it | Turn on Settings → Recording → Create audio transcript. Zoom can take up to twice the meeting length to produce a transcript; Nerra picks it up on the next sync |
| A meeting has no AI summary | Zoom AI meeting summary is off, was not started for that meeting, or the meeting was end-to-end encrypted | Turn on Settings → Zoom AI → Meeting Summary and start the summary in future meetings. Encrypted meetings cannot be summarised |
| The Zoom card shows “Reconnect required” | Zoom revoked the token: you changed your Zoom password, an admin removed the app, or the token expired | Click Connect and approve again. Nothing already imported is lost |
| The wrong Zoom account was connected | You were signed in to another Zoom account in the browser | Disconnect in Nerra, sign out at zoom.us, then connect again with the right account |
| Facts from a meeting look wrong | Transcript quality was poor (cross-talk, no speaker names, wrong language setting) | Edit or delete the fact in the Knowledge Library; set the correct transcription language in Zoom for future meetings |
Still stuck? Contact support with the meeting date and the name of the Zoom account; we can see the sync log for your workspace.
FAQ
Does Nerra join my meetings as a bot or record them? No. Nerra never joins a meeting and never records. It reads the summary and transcript that Zoom itself produced after the meeting ended.
Can a Zoom admin connect Nerra for the whole company at once? Not yet. Each person connects their own Zoom account, so Nerra only sees meetings that person hosted. An admin can pre-approve Nerra so that everyone can connect without a request. Account-wide connection is on the roadmap.
Which meetings does Nerra import? Meetings you hosted that have a cloud recording with a transcript, a Zoom AI summary, or both. Meetings you only attended, local recordings and encrypted meetings are not imported.
Does it work with a free Zoom account? Not in practice. The free Basic plan has no cloud recording and no transcripts, and Zoom AI summaries are limited to a few hosted meetings a month, so there is almost nothing for Nerra to read. A Pro plan or higher is needed.
Is my meeting data used to train AI models? No. Transcript and summary text is processed only to extract knowledge for your workspace and is not used for training.
Who in my company can see knowledge from my meetings? Members of your Nerra workspace, according to the access rules your workspace uses for other sources. Nothing is shared outside your company.
